Dehradun/Uttarakhand, 07 August: In a significant move to enhance infrastructure and connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun today. The discussion focused on the urgent need to resolve problems associated with the Yamuna Bridge near Paonta Sahib and development of a traffic diversion plan for its repair and rehabilitation.

Vikramaditya Singh highlighted the critical condition of the Yamuna Bridge, which serves as a vital link between the two states. He informed that cracks are visible on the bridge and there is heavy vibration during vehicular movement, due to which there is a need for immediate renovation. The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways approved the rehabilitation of the bridge on December 22, 2020. The state Public Works Department awarded the contract for the rehabilitation work on September 18, 2021 with a budget allocation of Rs 1.44 crore. However, the project has been delayed due to the need to keep the bridge closed for at least two months to replace the bearings of the bridge.

To facilitate the repair work, Singh stressed the need for a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to ensure smooth movement of passengers and goods while the bridge is closed.

Expedite construction of Naitwar-Pujarli road

Minister Singh also stressed on expediting the construction of Naitwar (Uttarakhand) to Pujarli (Himachal Pradesh) road. This route is important for connecting remote areas during winter and monsoon seasons. Singh said that the residents of Dodra Kawar face isolation and lack of connectivity due to bad weather and urged Chief Minister Dhami to expedite the pending construction process to ensure uninterrupted road connectivity during winter.
