Shimla, July 25: In a decisive move to improve emergency medical services in the state, Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil today announced that all 108 ambulances that have completed 10 years since purchase or have run 3.5 lakh kilometres should be replaced immediately. The directive was issued during a review meeting of 108 ambulance services.
Dr Shandil stressed that the company providing 108 ambulance services should maintain the maintenance of the existing fleet as per their agreement. He emphasised that the replacement of old ambulances should be done expeditiously to ensure that the public continues to receive reliable emergency medical services.
“It is important to replace these ambulances quickly to effectively facilitate the public,” said Dr Shandil. “We need to ensure that every call is responded to promptly and our services are accessible across the state, providing necessary medical care without delay.”
The minister also emphasised the importance of keeping the necessary first aid kits and life saving equipment in good condition in all ambulances. The measure is aimed at enhancing the quality and reliability of emergency care provided to the public.
The Health Minister’s directives are expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of 108 ambulance services, ensuring that they continue to be a vital lifeline for people in urgent need of medical assistance across the state.
