Shimla, July 25: To preserve the pristine environment of Himachal Pradesh, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has ordered the Himachal Pradesh government to levy a fee on tourists like Sikkim and Bhutan. The initiative aims to keep the region clean and beautiful by reducing the environmental impact of tourism. The order was passed by a bench of Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sushil Kukreja. The court stressed the need to make the environment plastic-free and suggested that tourists should be given a bag in their vehicles so that they can collect their garbage and dispose it responsibly.
In compliance with the previous Court orders dated March 23 and May 9, Municipal Corporation Shimla has been directed to take stringent measures for effective management of solid waste. As part of these efforts, the Municipal Corporation has launched a complaint number, 9805201916, for residents and visitors to report any incidents of garbage accumulation around forests or residential areas. The Court has directed that these complaints should be publicly displayed until resolved. Additionally, the High Court has ordered the state government to set up a special task force dedicated to addressing environmental concerns by the next hearing on August 1.
“Preservation of our environment is of paramount importance,” the court said. “By implementing these measures, we can ensure that the natural beauty of Himachal Pradesh remains for future generations.” The introduction of tourist fees and better waste management practices are expected to significantly contribute to keeping Himachal Pradesh clean and green.
