Mandi, July 23: In a late night rescue operation, two youths were rescued from a flash flood in Kharkhan drain near Ganai Chowk in Gohar subdivision of Mandi district. The incident occurred when their jeep got stuck in the fast rising waters following heavy rains.
According to sources, the jeep driver had gone to the vegetable market at Chail Chowk from Thunag with a vegetable cart. After unloading the vehicle, he went to his friend’s room to rest. However, as the rain intensified late at night, the driver decided to take the jeep to a safer place and attempted to cross the Kharkhan drain with his friend.
While they were crossing the drain, the water level rose unexpectedly, leaving the jeep stranded in the middle of the stream. Realising the danger, the local youths acted quickly and called a JCB machine to assist in the rescue operation.
After much effort, both the youth and the vehicle were pulled out safely from the flood waters. The incident underlines the dangers of flash floods in the area, especially during heavy rains. The local administration has issued a warning, advising residents to avoid attempting to cross water bodies during adverse weather conditions and take shelter until the water level recedes.
