Shimla, July 21: Himachal Pradesh’s ruling Sukhu government has issued a notification to open an HRTC depot in CM Sukhu’s home constituency Nadaun. This is the first big gift for the people of Nadaun during Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s 18-month tenure as Chief Minister. The Chief Minister had announced this in his first budget. With this, the state’s smallest district Hamirpur now has two HRTC depots. Currently, there is only an HRTC depot in Hamirpur.
After the notification of HRTC depot in Nadaun, not only the number of HRTC buses will increase here, but interstate and new local routes will also open. Currently, buses run from Hamirpur depot only for Hamirpur district or outside, but soon HRTC bus service will start from Nadaun HRTC depot to various areas. Efforts will begin to find land for HRTC depot in Nadaun and complete other formalities, after which HRTC bus depot in Nadaun will start functioning regularly.
HRTC is struggling with loss, now has 30 depots across the state –
HRTC has been running in loss for the last several years. Due to lack of income, the financial condition of HRTC has become poor. According to the information, HRTC is running in a loss of about 1355 crores. The Himachal Pradesh government makes a provision of grant to HRTC in the budget every year. In such a situation, the financial burden of HRTC will increase further with the opening of a new depot in Nadaun. At present, there are a total of 29 bus depots of HRTC in the entire state, now this number has increased to 30 with the opening of a new depot in Nadaun.
Government’s best efforts to increase the income of HRTC-
The state government is making every effort to increase the income of HRTC. The new routes started by HRTC, Leh-Delhi, Shimla-Manali and Manali-Delhi, have increased the corporation’s income. Employees are getting the benefit of the increase in the corporation’s income in the form of salary on the first of every month. Earlier, employees had to wait for 10 to 15 days for their salary.
The corporation has reduced the loss-making routes and increased the number of passengers in buses by diverting the routes. Monthly income targets have been started to be given to all 29 depots of the corporation and monitoring has also been increased. Records of the diesel average of drivers and the income per kilometer of conductors are also being prepared. The corporation’s income has also increased due to the luggage policy. Passengers can now send their luggage from one place to another without traveling in the bus by paying the prescribed fare. The corporation is also earning from advertisements and the corporation’s income has also increased from the election duty of buses.
