Himachal News: 150 roads closed due to landslides, Mandi district has the highest number of 111 roads closed, Dharamshala recorded 214 mm rainfall

Shimla, July 06: Monsoon rains have started wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh like last year, due to which there is no hope of relief for the common people from heavy torrential rains. Due to heavy rains and landslides, traffic has been affected in various parts of the state and travelling on the roads is not free from danger. Due to landslides at various places, 150 roads including a national highway in Sirmaur district of the state have been completely closed. Electricity and drinking water supply has also been affected due to the non-functioning of 334 electricity transformers and 55 water schemes due to continuous heavy rains.
According to the Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours, 214 mm of rain has been recorded in Dharamshala, the headquarters of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, which is a record of heavy rainfall in this monsoon season. Apart from this, 212 mm rainfall was recorded in Palampur, 169 mm rainfall in Jogindernagar, 157 mm rainfall in Kangra, 142 mm rainfall in Baijnath, 95 mm rainfall in Jot, 90 mm rainfall in Nagrota Surian, 72 mm rainfall in Sujanapur, 70 mm rainfall in Dhaula Kuan, 68 mm rainfall in Ghamarur, 63 mm rainfall in Nadaun and 58 mm rainfall in Barthin.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorm and lightning for the next six days. However, the Meteorological Department has not predicted very heavy rainfall during the six-day period. The Meteorological Department has asked the local people and especially the tourists to remain alert in view of the bad weather. Tourists and general public have been instructed not to go near landslide prone areas and rivers and streams.
According to the report of the State Emergency Operation Center, one national highway and 150 roads are closed in entire Himachal Pradesh till Saturday morning. The movement of vehicles on NH-707 in Sirmaur district is halted. The NH Authority has claimed to restore NH-707 soon.
Maximum 111 roads are closed in Mandi district. 13 roads are blocked in Sirmaur district, nine in Shimla, eight each in Kullu and Chamba and one in Kangra district.

Talking about Mandi district, which is most affected due to landslides, 25 roads are blocked in Dharampur, 22 in Thalout, 14 each in Padhar and Seraj, 10 in Jogindernagar, nine in Sarkaghat, five in Karsog, three each in Gohar and Mandi and one in Nerchowk.
According to the report of State Emergency Operation Centre, there is blackout due to failure of 334 transformers due to heavy rainfall. Most of the 259 transformers are not working in Mandi district. People are facing blackout due to failure of 58 transformers in Chamba district and 19 transformers in Amb of Una district.
Along with this, 33 drinking water schemes in Shimla and 22 in Bilaspur have also come to a standstill due to heavy rainfall. 18 drinking water schemes in Theog of Shimla district and 13 in Kumarsen have come to a standstill due to increased amount of silt.
