Gagret Assembly Constituency: Big mistake in EVMs for voting in Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections, presiding officer, sector officer and EVM machine changed

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Una, June 01The voting process has been started late in two polling booths Mandwara and Kaloh of Gagret Assembly constituency of Una district of Himachal Pradesh.According to the information received, EVMs were connected wrongly in Mandwara polling booth.The main reason for wrongly connecting EVM is said to be simultaneous voting of both assembly by-election and Lok Sabha in Gagret assembly constituency.In Gagret assembly constituency, the EVMs of assembly by-election and Lok Sabha were exchanged.Voters got angry as voting did not start even after waiting for several hours, after which voting was started in a hurry.Due to anger of voters at Mandwara polling station, the presiding officer and sector officer of polling booth Mandwara were removed from duty with immediate effect.According to the information, some votes had already been cast, they were separated and voting is being conducted with a new EVM.Due to the delay of several hours in starting the voting at Ganu Mandwara polling station, local people have demanded action against the employees deployed on election duty. Una district administration officials have pacified the situation on the spot.

Let us tell you that in Gagret assembly constituency, voting for Lok Sabha and assembly by-elections is being conducted simultaneously, due to which long queues of voters are seen at the polling booths since morning.

About 29 percent voting has been recorded in Gagret assembly constituency till 11 am.

Election officer SDM Gagret Somil Gautam said that voting started late due to technical fault in EVM at polling booth Kaloh.He said that every voter standing in line to cast vote till 6 o’clock will be given the opportunity to vote.Una District Election Officer Jatin Lal said that there was a technical fault in the EVM machine in booth number one. The presiding officer, sector officer and EVM have been replaced.
