A new initiative can be started by providing information about forest conservation along with tourism. This information was given by Rajiv Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Himachal Pradesh Forest Department. Rajiv Kumar participated as the chief guest in the formal convocation ceremony of 54 forest guards from 12 forest circles of Himachal at Himachal Pradesh Forest Academy, Sundernagar. He said that the duration of this course was 6 months and this time the 34th batch of forest guards from the academy completed the training and went to their work area.

While talking to the media, Rajiv Kumar said that 15 percent of the land of the geographical area of Himachal Pradesh comes in the protected area. Sanctuary and National Park are present in it. At the national level, the average protected area is only 5 percent. He said that the national average 3 percent area in the state has been earmarked for wildlife. The Great Himalayan National Park of the state has been considered a world heritage by UNESCO. Due to this thousands of tourists go to see this area. Dhauladhar Wildlife Sanctuary is also a center of tourist attraction. This generates income for the people of rural areas and helps in forest conservation by reducing their dependence on forests.

Rajeev Kumar said that illegal deforestation has always been a matter of concern for the department in the state. The department makes every effort to deal strictly with illegal deforestation. He said that wherever any information about illegal logging is received in the state. There, strict action is taken by the department. Regarding this, cases of illegal felling are also taken to court. In small cases of deforestation, the violator is also fined. But in cases of illegal deforestation, instructions have been given to take strictest action against the culprits. If department staff are involved in this, strict action is also taken against them.
Abhishek Chaudhary won the gold medal by becoming the best trainee in the forest guards training course. Abhishek is serving as a forest guard in the Forest Division Una of Hamirpur Circle of the State Forest Department. Abhishek Choudhary was presented a memento along with one gold and 2 silver medals at the training course.
On this occasion, Abhishek Chaudhary said that the teachers of the 6-month course in the Forest Training Academy were given good training. He said that during the training, the trainees were also taken on a tour to Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Himachal on forest related topics.
