Consumption of Kangni (foxtail), a millet grown in South India, is a panacea for anemia, high blood pressure and diabetes. Not only this, Millet Kangni is also very beneficial in reducing obesity. At present the highest production of Kangni Millet is found only in the state of Karnataka. Kangni Millet is a type of antioxidant and a very nutritious grain. Kangni millet is rich in fiber, protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamins. The use of Kangni Millet is also beneficial for pregnant women and children.

Kangni Millet can be used to reduce anemia in children. Kangni millet is also used medicinally. But at present Kangni millet is not being produced in Himachal Pradesh. The people of the state also have very little information about Kangni Millet.

The price of Kangni millet is quite low in the South. People are also consuming Kangni Millet in the South India. Many food items are made from Kangni millet flour. But Himachal Pradesh does not have modern thrashing machines on the lines of the South. Cultivation of Kangni millet is easy in Himachal Pradesh, but thrashing of Kangni millet is quite difficult. Due to this, people in Himachal Pradesh have stopped growing Kangni millet since 1980.

A letter has been written to Himachal government regarding Kangni millet production. Himachal Pradesh government has also been asked to purchase modern machines used for thrashing Kangni millet.

Next to Kangni Millet, comes the porridge form of Rice Kheer Fell Millet Kangni. Kangni kheer can be made from this. It is being told that rice kheer has failed in comparison to Kangni kheer. Apart from being beneficial for health, the taste of Kangni is also better.

According to the report of Indian Milling Institute, Hyderabad, Kangni contains protein 12.3 grams, fiber 8 grams, minerals 3.3 grams, iron 2.8 mg and calcium 31 mg.
