Himachal Snowfall: 675 HRTC Routes Closed In Shimla, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, 525 Roads Closed, Yellow Alert By IMD.

Kumud Sharma, Shimla Correspondent, Diary Times : The sufferings of common people are increasing due to heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh. Due to the ongoing snowfall in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, roads at many places are covered with white sheets of snow. In most of the areas of Upper Shimla, the supply of milk, bread and all other essential items has come to a standstill due to slippery conditions. The work of restoring traffic by removing snow from the roads is also going on day and night by the officers and employees of the Public Works Department as soon as the weather clears. Due to heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, Lahaul, Keylong and Manali, necessary guidelines have been issued for tourists. 525 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba districts. Also, there has been a blackout in Shimla district since night due to closure of 45 power transformers. Electricity restoration work is being done by the employees and officials of the Electricity Board as soon as the weather becomes clear. 675 routes of Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) are closed due to snowfall. HRTC buses are stuck at many places in Shimla, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts due to accumulation of snow. Below normal minimum temperatures have been recorded by Meteorological Center Shimla in most areas of Himachal Pradesh.
Smog wreaks havoc in entire Kangra district since morning, drivers are facing problems –
There is fog in Kangra district since morning due to fresh snowfall, due to which drivers are being advised by Kangra district administration to drive carefully. Due to fog in McLeodganj of Dharamshala at 7.20 am, drivers have to drive slowly and the supply of essential services has also come to a standstill. There has been a blackout in the hilly areas of Kangra district since night, power supply has remained disrupted in many areas due to heavy rains for 2-3 days. A total of 55 roads are closed in Kangra district while 32 transformers are also closed.
15 roads closed due to heavy rain in Kinnaur district –
Light rain and drizzle is continuing in Kinnaur district since morning. Due to fresh snowfall in Kalpa, the havoc of cold is increasing due to which people have been forced to hide in their homes. 15 roads are blocked in Pooh and Sangla. The work of restoration of transformers of various areas is going on by the Electricity Board employees.
Guidelines issued for tourists by Kullu district administration –
Kullu district administration has advised tourists coming to Manali to check the weather conditions before reaching their destination, avoid going to remote areas, and not to take vehicles to areas with heavy snowfall. Due to heavy snowfall in Kullu district, 28 roads are closed and 52 power transformers are closed. Due to blackouts at various places, the problems of the people are not decreasing.
Vehicles stranded due to heavy snowfall in tribal areas Keylong and Pangi in Lahaul Spiti district –
Due to heavy snowfall in Lahaul, BRO started snow removal work from Atal Tunnel Rohtang. At many places in Pangi tribal area, people’s cars got stuck in snowfall. Also, the minimum temperature in Keylong has been recorded at minus. Direct connectivity of Lahaul with Kullu district by road has not been restored yet. Lahaul-Spiti district Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said that 256 roads have been blocked due to snow accumulation, the roads are being restored as soon as the weather clears. Besides, 56 transformers have broken down in various areas of Keylong and Pangi.
HRTC 675 route halted due to heavy snowfall, slippage increased on alternative routes too –
HRTC bus services have come to a standstill due to heavy rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh. 540 HRTC routes have come to a standstill due to heavy snowfall and rain in Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh. Also, due to snowfall and slippery, bus services have been stopped by HRTC board management at night. 65 HRTC buses are still stuck due to heavy snow accumulation on Kullu-Mandi Highway. At present, HRTC is operating buses on alternative routes keeping in mind the number of passengers.
Yellow alert of heavy rain on 5th and 6th February by Meteorological Center Shimla –
Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and heavy rain in the plains. Director of Meteorological Center, Shimla, Dr. Surendra Pal said that western disturbances are active in Himachal Pradesh, due to which heavy snowfall has been predicted in Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Mandi and Chamba districts on February 5 and February 6. Whereas a yellow alert of heavy rain has been issued in the plain districts of Himachal Pradesh, Kangra, Solan, Hamirpur, Sirmaur.
