G20: European Union (EU) Commissioner Helena Dalli will visit India to participate in the three-day G-20 Ministerial Conference on Women Empowerment in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

According to the statement issued by the EU Delegation to India and Bhutan, the European Commissioner will represent the EU at the ministerial meeting, which this year has the theme of women-led inclusive development. The commissioner will attend the inaugural session of the G-20 Ministerial Conference on Empowerment of Women on August 2 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre. She will then deliver an EU ministerial statement on education and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) session.

The statement further said that during the session, Commissioner Helena Dalli will also speak on the challenges and opportunities to protect and strengthen women’s rights and will play an important role in enabling global discussion.

At the European level, we have worked over the past four years to establish an institutional framework to ensure that a gender equality perspective is included at all stages of decision-making, from policy development to implementation, the statement said. . We look forward to sharing what we have learned from this experience and learning from what other countries have done to promote women’s empowerment.

Addressing the session’s theme of education and STEM, Commissioner Dalli will also address how gender stereotypes have detrimental effects on our societies. These gender stereotypes can hinder the aspirations of both women and men, the statement said.
