G20 Summit 2023: The PM said that the agriculture sector is facing many challenges at the global level. Globally, agriculture provides livelihood to more than 250 crore people. Agriculture accounts for about 30 percent of the GDP of the Global South.

Due to climate change, extreme weather events are increasing rapidly. Because of this, the agriculture sector is facing many challenges. These challenges are being felt most in the Global South. This was stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a video message for the ongoing three-day meeting of G20 Agriculture Ministers in Hyderabad.

The PM said that the agriculture sector is facing many challenges at the global level. Globally, agriculture provides livelihood to more than 250 crore people. Agriculture accounts for about 30 percent of the Global South’s GDP and the sector provides more than 60 percent of jobs. Today this sector is facing many challenges. Supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic have been further exacerbated by geopolitical tensions.

In the video message, Prime Minister Modi said that agriculture is the center of human civilization, so your job as Agriculture Minister is not to handle only one sector of the economy. You have a great responsibility for the future of humanity on your shoulders. This is the sector which provides employment to crores of people globally. Everything possible should be done to save it.

Not only this, he further said that India’s policy in the agriculture sector is a mixture of Back to Basics and March to Future. The PM said that along with natural farming, technology-based farming is also being promoted. Farmers all over India are doing natural farming. They are not using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. His focus is on rejuvenating Mother Earth.

He also stressed on reducing agricultural and food waste and investing in creating wealth from waste instead. PM Modi said that there is a need today that immediate work should be done on investing in creating wealth from waste.

He said that traditional practices from different parts of the world can inspire us to develop alternatives to regenerative agriculture. We need to empower our farmers with innovation and digital technology.
