Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi has said that the government will soon come out with an effective policy in the larger interest of the society and the state after taking people’s opinion on the legal and scientific cultivation of cannabis.

Here in Dharamshala, as the chairman of the committee constituted for its study, he was speaking in a public dialogue program to discuss with various stakeholders and public representatives.

He said that Himachal’s environment and regional qualities are helpful for the production of cannabis and the cannabis grown here can be used for both medicinal and industrial purposes.

During the public dialogue program, Jagat Singh Negi consulted the stakeholders and public representatives and asked for their opinion on this subject. The Horticulture Minister said that many products made from the scientific cultivation of cannabis are being used today in many other countries besides India.

He said that there are many big countries of the world where money is being earned from the scientific cultivation of cannabis. Jagat Singh Negi said that on the basis of research such seeds of cannabis will be prepared which will not cause intoxication in the plants.

He said that licenses will be given for its cultivation and cultivation will be done under administrative supervision in a controlled environment.
