Farooq Abdullah again advocated talks with Pakistan, said – G20 will not be of any benefit
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has once again advocated talks with Pakistan. He said that there will be no benefit from the G20 program unless there is a dialogue between the two countries.
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said holding the G-20 event in Kashmir will not benefit tourism in the Valley unless India and Pakistan resolve the future of the union territory through dialogue. He also said that J&K is suffering hugely due to the lack of an elected government.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that the question is whether we will benefit in terms of tourist arrivals from these countries. This cannot happen until the situation here improves and the situation will not improve until the two big countries hold talks on how to shape the future of this state.
Farooq Abdullah further said that dilapidated roads were repaired over the years. The walls got a new coat of paint. Street lights started working, so we have benefited from it.
‘Democracy is done by elected government’
He said that democracy is when there is an elected government. One LG and his advisors cannot look after the entire state. These things do not matter to the bureaucracy, because they do not retire till the age of 60 years. He said that an MLA has to go to the public every five years. If he doesn’t work, he won’t get votes, so it is very important that elections should be held here. Farooq Abdullah said that his party is ready for elections any time.
‘They can approach the High Court or the Election Commission’
Responding to the Lt Governor’s statement that some parties in Kashmir had hijacked elections in the past, Abdullah asked whether they did not have the means to counter it. They can go to the High Court or the Election Commission. Even Indira Gandhi was deposed by the High Court.
On the Odisha train accident, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said that it is one of the biggest disasters in the world. He said more than 300 people had died and hundreds of others were injured. Abdullah said that there should be an inquiry as to how this happened and who is responsible for it.
