US Ambassador Eric Garcetti arrives at Sabarmati Ashram
Newly appointed United States (US) Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat on Monday. The ashram, also known as Gandhi Ashram, is located in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad and has been witness to many important historical events. Garcetti was garlanded upon his arrival and greeted people there with the traditional “namaste”. Mahatma Gandhi lived in a small hut during his stay at Sabarmati which is now known as “Hridaya (Heart) Kunj”.
It is a place of significant historical importance where visitors can still see some of the items used by Gandhi, including a writing desk, a khadi kurta, the yarn he spun, and some of his correspondence. Garcetti had earlier posted a video on his Twitter about his visit to Maharashtra Bhawan in Delhi. “From the bustling streets of LA to the colorful lanes of Delhi, my love for fine food continues. I am at Maharashtra Bhavan, eager to explore the exotic flavors of India. Join me on this journey as I Sample the essence of India.” One state at a time. Where should I go next?” posted the US envoy.
