Pope Francis has called for dialogue between Sudan’s opposition armed forces as violence in the North African country grows worse every day, according to Al Jazeera. During his Sunday address in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, the Pope called for dialogue between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) in Sudan.

“Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan remains grave,” the Pope said in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
“That is why I am renewing my call for an early end to the violence and the resumption of dialogue,” he added.
Al Jazeera reported that there have been more than 400 deaths and more than 3,500 injuries since the fighting began. Sudan is experiencing violence due to fighting between the army and paramilitary forces. There are reports of violence even in the midst of a 72-hour ceasefire.
The conflict began when a 2021 coup between Sudan’s military leader and his deputy in the ruling council derailed plans to transition to a civilian democracy following the fall of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir in 2019 . End of 2023.
Fighting has intensified between forces loyal to Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).
Several countries have started evacuating their citizens from conflict-torn Sudan. The US was the most recent country to launch an operation and evacuate government personnel from Sudan.
