PM Modi to dedicate nation's first Water Metro during Kerala visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate India’s first water metro to the nation during his visit to Kerala on 25 April.
The Water Metro is a unique urban mass transit system with a feel and ease of travel similar to a traditional metro system. This is very useful in cities like Kochi.
According to officials, the Modi government has made a conscious choice to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach to providing infrastructure and connectivity. A prime example of this approach is seen in the expansion of metro connectivity in the country.
The officials further elaborated on the differences between the different forms of metro systems.
“Metro Lite is a low-cost mass rapid transit system with an experience and ease of travel similar to that of a conventional metro system in terms of comfort, convenience, safety, punctuality, reliability and eco-friendliness,” he added.
He further added that it is a low-cost mobility solution for Tier-II cities and smaller towns with 15,000 peak hour peak direction traffic.
“The cost of metro light is 40 per cent of the conventional metro system. It is being planned in cities like Jammu, Srinagar and Gorakhpur,” officials said.
“Metro Neo has rubber tyred electric coaches powered by overhead traction system which run on road slabs, with equal experience and ease of travel in terms of comfort, convenience, safety, punctuality, reliability and eco-friendliness walk on road slabs with the traditional metro system,” he said.
Along with this, Metro Neo is also being planned in Nashik, Maharashtra.
“Metro Neo looks like an electric bus trolley and can cater to 8,000 peak hour peak direction traffic riders. It does not require standard gauge track. Metro Neo is being planned in Nashik, Maharashtra,” he said. Said.
Giving information about the Regional Rapid Transit System, the officials said that for the first time a Regional Rapid Transit System connecting two cities in NCR (Delhi-Meerut) is being started.
“It is envisaged as a transformative intervention to revolutionize regional development,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi will embark on a two-day tour of over 5,000 kilometers in different parts of the country in 36 hours starting from April 24 during which he will participate in eight programs and visit seven different cities.
Starting from the national capital on April 24, the Prime Minister will first travel to central India – Madhya Pradesh. Officials said on Saturday that he would then travel to Kerala in the south, followed by a stay in the union territory in the west and then return to Delhi.
Detailing the schedule of the prime minister’s long tour, officials said, “The PM will start the journey on the morning of April 24. He will travel from Delhi to Khajuraho, covering a distance of about 500 km. From Khajuraho, he will travel Rewa where he will participate in the National Panchayati Raj Day event. Thereafter, he will come back to Khajuraho, traveling about 280 km. From Khajuraho, he will travel to Kochi, an aerial distance of about 1700 km, to participate in a Yuvam Conclave .
“Next morning, the PM will travel from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram, covering a distance of about 190 kms. Here, he will flag off the Vande Bharat Express and also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects. From here he will travel to Silvassa. Surat’s En route, covering a distance of about 1570 kms.There, he will visit the NAMO Medical College and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects.
In addition, PM Modi will travel to Daman for the inauguration of Devka Seafront, following which he will travel to Surat, covering a distance of about 110 kms.
“From Surat, he will go back to Delhi and add another 940 km to his itinerary,” he added.
In a power-packed schedule, the Prime Minister will cover a staggering 5,300 km by air.
