US President Joe Biden said late Saturday evening that the US military has completed the evacuation of its embassy personnel from Sudan. He also called on Sudan’s two rival leaders embroiled in a power struggle to end the “unwarranted” violence.

Biden thanked US troops for the operation to evacuate US embassy personnel from Sudan. With the completion of this evacuation operation, the US indefinitely closed the US mission in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

Two senior US officials with knowledge of the mission said embassy personnel were taken to an undisclosed location in Ethiopia. More than 400 people have died in the ongoing conflict between two commanders in Sudan. This conflict, which continues for the second week, is expected to have an impact beyond Sudan’s borders.

“I am proud of the extraordinary commitment of our embassy personnel, who courageously and professionally performed their duties and embodied America’s friendship and relationship with the people of Sudan,” Biden said in a statement. ‘
“I am grateful to the matchless skill of our army, which successfully brought them (the embassy personnel) back,” he said.

Biden also thanked Djibouti, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia for helping with the campaign.

Biden’s national security team recommended the evacuation of embassy personnel on Saturday amid no signs of an end to the conflict in Sudan, following which the US President ordered the US armed forces in this regard.

Biden said, “The tragic violence in Sudan has already taken the lives of hundreds of innocent people. This is unfair and should be stopped.”

“Parties involved in the violence must implement an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, allow unhindered humanitarian (aid) access and respect the will of the Sudanese people,” he said.

It is being told that this order to evacuate the personnel of the embassy was applicable to about 70 Americans. The US military moved these personnel from the embassy (from the landing zone) to an unspecified location.

The US State Department has suspended operations at the embassy due to the serious security situation. It is not yet clear when work will resume at the embassy.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement, “This widespread fighting has resulted in the death and injury of large numbers of civilians and the destruction of essential infrastructure.” An unacceptable risk was created for our embassy personnel.
