US President Joe Biden may join the race for next year’s presidential election. Biden said on Monday (local time) that he plans to run for president in 2024, but is not yet ready to announce it.

In an interview with NBC News’ “Today” show ahead of the White House Easter Egg Roll, Biden said, “I plan to run for president… but we’re not ready to announce it yet.” Significantly, Biden is the oldest President in the history of America. If he wins re-election, he will be 86 at the end of his second term.

NBC News reported that Biden has said he intends to run for the Democratic nomination in 2024, but may not make a formal announcement yet. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris said they would move forward together. Biden, 80, has consistently said he plans to run for re-election. When Biden posed for a photo with Sharpton in the Roosevelt Room last year, he also said “I’m going to do it again.”

NBC News, citing multiple unnamed sources, reported that top White House advisers are ready to make a final decision on resuming Biden’s re-election campaign. A source close to the matter told NBC that the time for the decision was over, as they had already decided, but resisted the pressure to announce it.

Several views on the decision-making process include that there has not yet been a major democratic challenge; As revealed by former President Donald Trump, who is in the running for the GOP (Republican Party) nomination. Trump has been indicted and has been making political headlines and a major issue among Congressional Republicans over spending. Conflict is happening. Last week, the former president pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan court to falsifying business records.

There are currently two declared candidates running for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. They include author Marianne Williamson and anti-vaccine activist Robert Kennedy Jr., and no major Democratic incumbent is considering challenging them.

Democratic power brokers have indicated they are all ready to run for Biden’s re-election despite weak approval ratings, NBC News reported, before he officially announced his intention to do so. Biden’s comments come as he has broken with progressives on some key issues ahead of the expected launch of his re-election campaign, including crime, immigration policy and the environment. However, Democrats across the party, from progressives and moderates to leadership and rank-and-file members, have said they plan to stick with the Biden leadership in 2024.
