US: 4 killed, 9 injured in shooting in Louisville; gunman shot dead by police
A 23-year-old man opened fire with a rifle at a Louisville bank, killing four people, including a close friend of the governor, police officials said. He told that the accused himself was an employee of the same bank. Police Chief Jacqueline Givin-Villaroel identified the attacker as Connor Sturgeon.
Paul Humphrey, Deputy Chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department, said at a press conference that the incident happened at Old National Bank. The attacker gunman has also died. Policemen are also included in the injured. He said it was not clear whether the attacker killed himself or was shot by officers. Humphrey said that “we believe he was the lone gunman who was involved in the attack and had ties to the bank. We’re trying to find out what ties he had to the bank, but it appears that He was a former employee.
Louisville Hospital spokeswoman Heather Fountain said in an email that nine people, including two police officers, were injured in the shooting and are being treated. The condition of one officer is critical and three patients have been discharged, he said.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said emotionally that he lost friends in the shooting at the East Main Street building. It was very bad, he said. I had a very close friend who is no more and a friend who is in the hospital, I hope he gets well soon.
This shooting incident is the 15th incident of mass killing in the country this year. Just two weeks earlier, three children and three adults were killed in a mass shooting by a former student at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee. The governor of that state and his wife’s friend were also killed in the shootout.
