The Israeli army said three more rockets were fired from Syria towards its border area, which were intercepted and shot down before entering the border. Earlier on Saturday also three rockets were fired from Syria. In this way, a total of six rockets were fired towards Israel within 24 hours. Israel’s military said it retaliated to the attack from Syria.

The rockets were fired after escalating violence on multiple fronts over tensions in Jerusalem and a police raid on the Israeli city’s most sensitive holy site. The army said that in the second barrage, two rockets crossed the border with Israel, one of which was intercepted and the other fell in an open area. In the first attack, a rocket hit a field in the Israel-annexed Golan Heights. The Jordanian military said fragments of another destroyed missile fell on Jordanian territory near the Syrian border. Meanwhile, a Damascus-based Palestinian group loyal to the Syrian regime claimed responsibility for launching three missiles at Israel on Saturday.

The report cited the Al-Quds Brigades, a militia separate from the armed wing of the larger Palestinian Islamic Jihad of the same name, that fired rockets to respond to the police raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
