Pan Card Will Become Useless After 31 March
- The deadline for linking PAN cards with Aadhaar is fast approaching, with only 22 days left until the cut-off date of 31st March 2023.
- Failure to link the two documents will result in an invalid PAN card, leading to a range of problems such as difficulties in filing tax returns, claiming refunds, or opening bank accounts.
- The government had previously put 11.44 lakh PAN cards into an inactive category, and after the deadline, any unlinked PAN cards may face a similar fate.
- Experts warn that without linking, individuals will not be able to file online ITR, and their tax refunds will become stuck.
- As per Section 139 AA (2) of the Income Tax Act, individuals who possess PAN cards and are eligible for Aadhaar must provide their Aadhaar number to the tax authorities.
- As per till now, over 16.65 crore PAN cards had been linked with Aadhaar out of a total of approximately 33 crore.
