Congress Leader Arrested for Allegedly Insulting Prime Minister Modi
- Pawan Khera, a Congress leader, was arrested by the Assam Police at the Delhi Airport on Thursday. According to reports, he was arrested in connection with a complaint that accused him of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Khera had referred to the PM as “Narendra Gautamdas Modi” during a press conference in Delhi on Monday while criticizing the BJP government over the Adani-Hindenburg crisis. Khera later said that it was a slip of the tongue.
- Khera made a statement saying that he was informed of a problem with his luggage despite having only one handbag. He was then informed that he could not leave the airport and was asked to wait for the Deputy Commissioner of Police. He expressed frustration with the situation, stating that he had been waiting for a long time and that there seemed to be no adherence to rules or laws.
- The Congress party stated that Khera was removed from a Delhi-Raipur flight as he was on his way to attend the AICC plenary session in the Chhattisgarh capital, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
- Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, IGP Law and Order and spokesperson of Assam Police informed ANI that a case was registered against Khera at the Haflong police station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. He also stated that a team from Assam Police had left for Delhi to take Khera’s remand in connection with the case and had requested Delhi Police to arrest him. Bhuyan added that they would bring Khera to Assam after obtaining permission from a local court.
