50% Increase In Data Rates In Prison During Pandemic

As the pandemic of COVID has passed, its impacts still can be seen. Many people who suffered from COVID have various side effects of the disease. Many health issues have been registered post-pandemic. The entire world suffered from the pandemic.

Similar happened at the prisons during the pandemic. As per the data available 50% of the death rates increased in the prison during the 1st year of the pandemic. The death rates in prison surpass the number of nursing homes in many countries. 

According to the WHO, some of the main reasons for the increase in death rates were, 

  • Aging the intimate population 
  • Shortage of prisoner workers 
  • Shortage of medical personnel to deal with the situation. 

In 2020, a total of 6,182 deaths were recorded just in the US prisons. In 2019, a total of 4,240 deaths were recorded. 

California ranks among one of the top countries in the number of prisoners recorded 48 deaths per 10.000 in 2020 and 32 in 2019.
