Poor AQI Recorded In Mumbai
The trend of poor air quality continues in Maharashtra’s Capital, Mumbai. The 1st 16 days were recorded to have poor air quality, in which the 10 days were severe compared to the last four years. The cold temperature is worsening the condition of air quality. Overall, the ‘moderate” days have decreed compared to last year in Mumbai.
Major pollutants for Mumbai are particulate matter 2.5 and 10 microns (PM 2.5 and PM 10).
The quality of air is decided in the following ways by Air Quality Index (AQI).
- Good ranges from 0 to 50
- Satisfactory ranges from 50 to 100
- Moderate ranges from 100 to 200
- Poor ranges from 201 to 300
- Very poor ranges from 301 to 400
- Severe ranges from 401 to 500.
Two major factors responsible for the decreased AQI of Mumbai as per the authorities are,
- Real estate infrastructure construction work
- Transportation
Along with the combustion release from the vehicles heavy traffic is also a reason for poor air quality.
Serious actions are required to be taken by the authorities.
