Model G20 Meeting in 2023 ?

A first model meeting will be held on 17th February. This meeting will be held under the guidance of the G20 Secretariat along with the United Nations India Country Office. This will be a simulation exercise of the G20 meeting. It will be held in Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi. School students will participate in the meeting accessing the roles of G20 delegates, Guest countries, and International Organisations.

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • Event will be inaugurated by India’s G20 Sherpa Shri Amitabh Kant and United Nations India Resident Coordinate Mr. Shambi Sharp.
  • A total of 60 high schools will participate, including 8 schools from Delhi NCR, including some international schools, private schools, and Kendriya Vidyalaya.
  • These schools will represent 12 nationalities including 10 G20 Countries.

THEME

  • Theme of this year’s G20 Summit is, “Youth for LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment”.
  • This theme was proposed by Prime Narendra Modi at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which was held in Glasgow.
  • The theme was the idea of global youth contribution in making LiFE a mass movement of Climate Action.
  • The idea was to promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on “Mindful and Deliberate Utilisation”.
  • It envisions replacing the prevalent, “Use and Dispose of Economy”.

GOALS

The goal of the day-long simulation exercise is to help the participants negotiate and

adopt the consensus of the theme. The document of the outcome of the model

the meeting will be handed over to the Chair of the G20’s Youth Engagement Group (Youth

20 or Y20).
