Earthquake in Turkey in 2023
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit central Turkey and north-west Syria causing over 500 fatalities and numerous injuries. Turkey’s vice-president reported 284 deaths and 2,323 injuries, and the government has declared a level 4 alarm for international assistance. In Syria, with over 237 casualties and 600 injured, the affected areas include Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia. President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan spoke with the governors of eight affected provinces to assess the situation and rescue efforts.
