Baba Ramdev Accused of Sparking Controversy with Remarks on Islam and Hinduism
Renowned yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, has sparked another controversy with his remarks on Islam and Hinduism. During a gathering in Barmer, Rajasthan, he accused Muslims of resorting to terror and abducting Hindu women while comparing Hinduism to Islam and Christianity.
Ramdev’s Remarks on Islam and Hinduism
In his speech, Baba Ramdev alleged that the two faiths, Islam and Christianity, were obsessed with conversion, whereas Hinduism taught its followers to do good. He claimed that Muslims offer namaz five times a day and then engage in criminal activities, becoming terrorists or criminals.
Rafeek Khan, Chairman of the Rajasthan State Commission for Minorities, criticized Ramdev’s comments and called them a conspiracy fueled by the Centre’s blessings. He added that no religion teaches enmity and that it was inappropriate to comment on any religion.
Ramdev’s Controversial History
This is not the first time that Baba Ramdev has found himself at the Centre of a controversy. In November, he was notified by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) for making inappropriate remarks about women’s attire.
On the other hand, Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati had claimed earlier in January that the ancestors of Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ have been proven to be Sanatani Hindus.
Conclusion
Baba Ramdev’s comments on Islam and Hinduism have again put him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. His controversial remarks have been criticized by various quarters and are being seen as a conspiracy to fan communalism.
