2002 Gujarat riots: Special Court to pronounce verdict today in Naroda Gam case
Thursday is a crucial day in the Naroda Gam case related to the 2002 Gujarat riots. A special court in Gujarat is likely to pronounce its verdict on Thursday in the Naroda Gam killing of 11 members of the Muslim community. Former BJP MLA Mayaben Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi are among the accused in the case.
A total of 86 people were made accused in the case. So far 18 of these accused have died.
The court of Special Investigation Agency (SIT) cases Special Judge SK Bakshi will pronounce the verdict against the 68 accused.
According to special prosecutor Suresh Shah, the prosecution and the defense examined 187 and 57 witnesses, respectively, during the trial that began in 2010. Six judges were changed during this case which lasted for almost 13 years.
