Solan, Oct 21: 1st Gorkha Rifles (1 GR), one of the oldest and most prestigious regiments of the Indian Army, celebrated its Regimental Re-union at Subathu in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh on October 18-19, 2024.

Addressing the occasion, Lieutenant General Sanjeev Chauhan, Colonel of the 1 GR Regiment, said that the reunion is a testimony to the unbreakable bond that binds all members of the regiment together. It is an occasion to honour the sacrifices of our comrades and celebrate the shared heritage of courage and brotherhood that defines the true identity of the 1st Gorkha Rifles.

He said that the event brought together generations of soldiers who have served the nation under the banner of this regiment, carrying on the tradition of valour, sacrifice and brotherhood that has lasted for over 209 years. The two-day event saw the participation of over 500 serving officers, veterans and military families.

This reaffirms the deep ties that unite the Regiment. Veterans from across the country and Nepal attended this special reunion along with their families, providing a platform to reconnect with comrades and relive past memories.

The 1st Gorkha Rifles has a glorious history. It has played a significant role in important battles and campaigns of pre-independence and post-independence India.

The reunion was a series of events. It included a wreath-laying ceremony to honour the martyrs at the War Memorial, a grand dinner to celebrate the rich heritage of the Regiment, cultural programmes showcasing the vibrant traditions of the Gorkha Rifles and a special gathering of soldiers and veterans. Unveiling of statues, yearbook and memorial commemorating the history and achievements of the Regiment were also part of the celebrations.
