The Israeli army said it intercepted some of the three projectiles fired from Lebanon
JERUSALEM: Missile attacks in Israel’s Sharon region injured 19 people early Saturday, police said, after the army reported that three projectiles were fired from Lebanon into central Israel.
Israeli police said all 19 people, four of them in “moderate” condition, were taken to hospital for treatment.
Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service earlier said several people were injured in the attack on the central city of Tira, including “a male of approximately 20 years old injured by shrapnel.”
Video posted on social media by the Israeli Foreign Ministry showed fire and smoke billowing from a building onto the street as emergency response teams rushed to the scene.
“This is the result of a direct hit by a Hezbollah rocket on a building in the Israeli Arab city of Tira, injuring 19 civilians,” the ministry said in the post. “We will not rest until Hezbollah is destroyed,” it added. The Israeli military said on Telegram that it had intercepted some of the three projectiles fired from Lebanon. Tira, a predominantly Arab city, lies about 25 kilometres (15 miles) northeast of Tel Aviv near the border with the occupied West Bank. The war in the Gaza Strip has spread to Lebanon, where Israel has been carrying out air strikes against Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian group Hamas. At least 63 people have been killed on the Israeli side since cross-border clashes with Hezbollah erupted following Hamas’ deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, according to Israeli figures.
Seven people were killed in Metula in northern Israel on Thursday when rockets fired from Lebanon hit Israel, including four Thai farmers.

The Israeli response has killed 43,259 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them civilians, according to data from the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry, which is considered reliable by the UN.
