Shimla, June 28: His Excellency Governor of Himachal Pradesh Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla felicitated 18 persons who played a vital role in detecting cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the ‘Himachal Ke Prahari’ felicitation ceremony held at Raj Bhawan, Shimla. The event was organized by Himachal Pradesh Police Department.
On this occasion, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that these 18 guards of Himachal Pradesh have displayed extraordinary commitment and bravery in the fight against drug abuse.
Shiv Pratap Shukla said that drug abuse is a serious threat that transcends boundaries and demographics. It disrupts families, endangers public health and fuels criminal activities.
He said that Himachal Pradesh is known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
He said that we must be vigilant and proactive to save our communities from the curse of drug abuse. Efforts to combat this menace require a concerted and multi-pronged approach, which includes law enforcement, community engagement, education and rehabilitation.
He said that during his 16-month tenure as Governor, he has actively associated himself with the fight against drug abuse in Devbhoomi.

Expressing concern over the rising drug abuse, he said that today drugs are reaching every village and now even girls are becoming drug peddlers. He said that the NDPS Act is an important tool in our arsenal to deal with drug trafficking and abuse. The effectiveness of this law depends not only on the officers but also on the vigilance and cooperation of the public.
DG of Police Atul Verma welcomed the Governor. He said that today a function was organized by the Himachal Pradesh Police to honor the collective efforts of the people who are playing an important role in our fight against drug abuse. This felicitation ceremony was organised to recognise the active role of our aware citizens and celebrate their contribution, highlighting the transformative power of collaboration.
He said that drug abuse poses a significant challenge in Himachal Pradesh and a multi-disciplinary approach involving education, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation is essential to address it effectively.
Apart from this, Superintendent of Police of Anti Narcotics Task Force Arvind Negi also gave a presentation on drug abuse related matters in the state. Additional Director General of Police Abhishek Trivedi presented the vote of thanks.
Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Additional Director General of Police Satwant Atwal Trivedi, Secretary to Governor Rajesh Sharma and C.P. Verma, who is handling the charge of Secretary to Governor and other senior officers of police administration were also present on the occasion.
