The 156th meeting of the Board of Directors of Himachal Road Transport Corporation was held in Shimla today under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. Many important decisions were taken in the meeting.
Shimla, June 28: The 156th meeting of the Board of Directors of Himachal Road Transport Corporation was held here on Friday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. Many important decisions were taken in the meeting.
Mukesh Agnihotri said that Himachal Road Transport Corporation has decided to buy 250 new diesel buses and 50 tempo travellers to replace the old buses in its fleet, on which an estimated expenditure of about Rs 105 crore is expected.
Also, HRTC will add 24 new super luxury buses and 50 tempo travellers to its fleet in the year 2024. HRTC’s 50 tempo travellers will replace old buses in remote and tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh. 24 new super luxury buses and 50 tempo travellers will be purchased by HRTC through its own resources.
Apart from this, HRTC will also purchase electric buses worth about Rs 25 crore from its own resources.
Mukesh Agnihotri said that tenders have been invited by HRTC on June 15, 2024 for the purchase of 327 Type-1 buses and Type-3 electric buses.
Agnihotri said that to encourage conductors to pay fares by passengers through cashless mode in HRTC buses, it has been decided to reward three conductors at the divisional level on a quarterly basis. This scheme will remain in force till December 31, 2024.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the stalled recruitment process of 350 bus drivers is going to be started soon. There are 600 vacancies of drivers in HRTC and about 800 drivers are retiring in the coming two years. Therefore, the recruitment process of drivers will also be completed soon.

He said that Rs 55.36 lakh has been paid to the employees of HRTC as medical reimbursement, salary and pensioners due after January 18, 2024.
Agnihotri said that a Resource Mobilization Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Managing Director of HRTC. This committee will find out the reasons for the losses incurred by HRTC and submit its report to the board.
Mukesh Agnihotri said that Himachal Pradesh has limited means of transport and people depend heavily on HRTC for transport facilities. He said that HRTC is providing services to women and employees of various categories at concessional rates.
It was decided in the meeting that HRTC will conduct annual medical checkup of all employees to ensure their better health.
Priority will be given to the construction of bus stand in Baddi and Fatehpur –
Mukesh Agnihotri also organized a meeting of the HRTC bus station in Baddi and Fatehpur, in which new members joined. The condition of the bus stations in Himachal Pradesh was reviewed and discussions were held to improve them.
He said that in view of the pending work of the bus stand being built in Dharamshala, the Managing Director should issue a show cause notice to the working agency and direct them to appear in the next meeting.
Also, matters related to the bus stations of McLeodganj and Shimla were also discussed in the meeting. He said that bus stations in Baddi and Fatehpur will be built on priority basis. He said that the pending amount of HRTC should be released soon, so that better decisions can be taken in the interest of HRTC employees.
The meeting was conducted by Managing Director, Himachal Road Transport Corporation, Rohan Chand Thakur and he assured the Deputy Chief Minister and non-official members of better work to be done by the Corporation in future.
