Uttar Pradesh Government Increases Grants to Small and Marginal Farmers under ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ Scheme
- The Yogi Adityanath-led government of Uttar Pradesh has announced its decision to augment the financial assistance provided to farmers, with a special focus on those who fall under the marginal and small categories, through the ‘Har Khet Ko Paani’ initiative. This move is aimed at improving the overall condition of farmers and doubling their income across the state.

- The Chief Minister Minor Irrigation Scheme (Mukhyamantri Laghu Sinchayi Yojana) has introduced various revisions to the previous guidelines concerning medium deep tube wells and deep tube wells, with the aim of ensuring access to water for all fields. Additionally, the grant for deep tube well boring has been raised from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.65 lakh. It is worth noting that the ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ program is a constituent of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
- The UP government’s recent amendments are aimed at providing aid to small and marginal farmers. Specifically, the funding for the water distribution system has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,000. However, the fixed amount for separate electrification on tube wells will remain unchanged at Rs 68,000.
- Under the revised guidelines, farmers in the general category will now receive a grant of Rs 2.57 lakh for the installation of tube wells, as opposed to the previous amount of Rs 1.53 lakh. Additionally, farmers in the Scheduled Caste-Tribe category will be eligible for a grant of Rs 3.85 lakhs to install a mandatory solar-powered pump on their tube wells with a capacity of 5 horsepower. For medium deep tube well borings, farmers in the Scheduled Caste category can receive a maximum grant of Rs 5.74 lakh, up from Rs 4.70 lakh. Furthermore, the grant for tube wells for general category farmers has been increased from Rs 1.78 lakh to Rs 3.47 lakh, but the amount for electrification of tube wells will remain the same as before at Rs 68,000.
- The maximum grant amount for deep tube well borings will be increased from Rs 4.95 lakh to Rs 6.64 lakh for farmers belonging to the Scheduled Caste category. Furthermore, the acquisition of solar pumps will be carried out via UPNEDA and its approved vendors as well as through the Gem portal.
