- Times of Israel has reported another terror attack in the town of Huwara in the West Bank, in which an Israeli former US Marine named David Stern, who works as a weapons instructor, was shot and severely injured. The victim hails from the settlement of Itamar and is an American citizen, as confirmed by US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides. The authorities following a brief pursuit apprehended the perpetrator. The article further states that the assailant had previously been shot by the victim and police officers but managed to escape the scene.
- According to the Times of Israel, the attacker dropped the makeshift “Carlo” submachine gun during his escape, which was seized by authorities. The gunman received medical treatment at a hospital before being handed over to the Shin Bet for questioning. Palestinian media identified him as Laith Nadim Nassar, from the village of Madama near Nablus. Unfortunately, the West Bank has become a hub for terror attacks, with another incident occurring in Jenin on Thursday, resulting in the death of four Palestinians and injuring 23 others. The Health Ministry has reported that five of the wounded are in critical condition. However, Israeli security forces claim that those who were “neutralized” were suspected of terrorist activity. CNN reported that the Israeli security forces released a statement confirming that “two operatives of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization who are suspected of significant terrorist activity” were neutralized. Additionally, a third person was “neutralized” after attempting to attack the fighters with an iron crowbar.
- During the operation, armed individuals opened fire at the security forces, resulting in casualties. CNN reported that Hamas confirmed in a statement that two of the Palestinians killed in Jenin were members of the organization. The statement also included a vow of retribution: “The cowardly assassination of two leaders of the resistance will not go unpunished. The occupation has tried us before, knows for sure that our response is coming, and that the march of the resistance continues until liberation.” Hamas is a Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist, militant, and nationalist organization that gained control of the Gaza Strip by removing Fattah officials, resulting in the de facto division of Palestinian territories into two entities: the West Bank governed by the Palestinian National Authority and Gaza governed by Hamas.
