Students will be able to do MA Physical Education degree in HPU from this session, Standing Committee gave approval

Shimla, August 22: Students will be able to do MA degree in Physical Education in HPU from this year. On the demand of teachers and students, the Standing Committee of HPU has approved the start of this course for the session 2024-25. Now the HPU administration will issue the form for this. After that there will be a ground test of the students and on the basis of merit, students will be able to take admission in it.
Actually, last year UGC discontinued MA Physical Education. Since then, till now HPU has also not issued any notification for this in the new academic session. But the students put forward this proposal before HPU that there is no option of MA for the students who are studying Physical Education as major and minor subjects. On this demand, now HPU has again given permission to start this course from this year. A total of 17 seats are to be filled in this, in which 12 subsidized and 5 non-subsidized seats will be filled.
It should be noted that last year UGC had issued instructions to close some diploma and certificate courses in Himachal Pradesh University. This decision has been taken due to less applications for admission in these courses. These courses included PG Diploma in Environmental Psychology, Organization Psychology, Diploma in Adult Education, Guidance and Counseling along with MA in Physical Education.
At present MPEd course is also going on in the university, in such a situation, the university administration had decided to discontinue the MA in Physical Education course. Apart from this, applications were coming less in other courses in the past years, in such a situation, a detailed discussion was held in the EC regarding the matter and it was decided that the batch of these five courses will not be seated in the next academic session 2024-25. But now this course will start again on the demand of the students. Admission will be done in MA Physical Education subject on the demand of the students. It has been continued from this year.
