For apple, Julius Kuhn Institute (JKI) of Germany has succeeded in finding a major variety of scab resistance in Himachali apples.
This new scab resistant variety of apples is also mainly resistant to fungal diseases.
Along with this, Dr. YS Parmar Horticulture and Forestry University of Himachal Pradesh has also started its research on scab resistance of apples.
Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry has successfully succeeded in preparing a scab resistant sub-variety.
This new scab resistant sub-variety of apples will prove to be a milestone for all the horticulture and forestry farmers and gardeners of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
Due to the scab resistance of Himachali apples, all the farmers and gardeners had to use fungicides to protect the apple crops from all other fungal infections, due to which the cost of apple crop increases drastically.
President of Himachal Pradesh Fruit Vegetable and Apple Producers Association, Harish Chauhan told Diary Times correspondent Kumud Sharma that on the lines of Julius Kuhn Institute (JKI) of Germany, Dr. YS Parmar Horticulture and Forestry University of Himachal Pradesh will also study the scab resistance of apple. To overcome this, a new variety should be developed.
In the years 1983 and 1984, apple crops in Himachal Pradesh had suffered huge losses due to scab resistance, and almost forty years after that loss, this year again signs of scab resistance were seen in apple crops in high altitude areas. went.
Also, this year the gardeners and farmers of Himachal Pradesh have suffered huge losses due to fungal infections of Alternaria and Marshonina and due to defoliation.
