Shimla, August 13: A massive landslide occurred on Sunday evening at the mouth of the tunnel under construction near Chalaunthi in Sanjauli on the Shakral-Dhali fourlane, due to which a large amount of debris fell on the mouth of the tunnel. A part of it collapsed. This landslide happened when recently the NHAI (National Highway Authority) had completed the work of stabilization of the hill and the work of digging the 400 meter long tunnel was to start.
Due to the landslide, the mouth of the tunnel has been completely closed, due to which the construction work has been badly affected. According to the information, a large part of the hill above the tunnel collapsed even before the excavation, raising potential safety concerns in the area.
The National Highway near Dhali Junction has also come under threat due to this landslide. According to Public Works Department officials, stones have been falling continuously at the spot since the incident, making the situation even more dangerous. Currently, security measures are being tightened by the officials at the spot and the work of removing the debris has been started.
