Relieved Japan PM Fumio Kishida is safe: PM Modi
Condemning the “violent incident” at a public event in Japan’s Wakayama, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he was relieved that his “friend” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was safe.
PM Modi said that India condemns all acts of violence.
Japan’s public media NHK reported that Kishida was evacuated from an event venue in the city of Wakayama on Saturday after an explosion was heard. According to Japanese officials, Kishida was safe and sound in the incident.

A man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident after a “smoke bomb” was thrown at Kishida during a campaign in Wakayama city, CNN reported.
CNN said the man was arrested on suspicion of “forcefully obstructing business” after he threw a “smoke bomb”.
In a speech broadcast on Japan’s public broadcaster NHK after the attack, the Japanese prime minister said police were investigating the explosion and apologized for causing concern, adding that “we are fighting an important election for our country”. Are.”
CNN reported that Kishida resumed campaigning for his ruling Liberal Democratic Party shortly afterwards and gave a speech at Wakayama Railway Station.
The dramatic scene took place in the city of Wakayama, shortly after a visit by Kishida to the local Sakazaki fishing port. The arrested man was taken to the Wakayama West Police Station for questioning.
Officials at the Wakayama Nishi Police Station told CNN that they are yet to release any information about the suspect. He added that more details would be announced in the future.
Video footage released by NHK showed members of the public running away and a man being arrested after the incident. The footage showed several people believed to be police officers holding the suspect to the ground.
