Shimla, 05 August: The state has suffered a huge loss in the recent cloudburst incidents in three districts of Himachal Pradesh. The Public Works Department has also suffered a loss of Rs 300 crore. In which roads and bridges have been washed away in water, work is going on on a war footing to restore them.
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, while giving information to journalists at the Secretariat in Shimla, said that relief and rescue work is going on in the affected districts of the state Mandi, Kullu and Shimla. The minister said that more than 45 people are still missing and search operations are going on to find them.
Vikramaditya Singh said that CM Sukhu has also visited the affected areas and directed to speed up the relief and rescue work. Work is being done to restore the roads. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has given instructions to speed up the relief work and has given Rs 20 crore to PWD so that Bailey bridges can be purchased. At present, 82 roads in the state are closed for traffic and efforts are being made to open them. Vikramaditya Singh said that relief and rescue work is going on in the affected districts of the state, Mandi, Kullu and Shimla.
He said that 4 new Poclain machines and some JCBs have been given to the search operation. The state government has amended the rules of TCP and SADA last year, but it has not been fully implemented. The need to strictly implement these rules has been emphasized by talking to the Chief Minister. The government has decided to ban construction work within 100 meters of rivers and drains, which is necessary to be strictly implemented.
Vikramaditya Singh said that Himachal Pradesh has not received any help from the central government in the disaster so far. In such a situation, the central government should help Himachal Pradesh and he has also appealed to the four BJP MPs to lobby for help for Himachal at the centre. The government is with those who have lost everything in the disaster and is working to rehabilitate them at some other place.
Vikramaditya Singh said that the state Public Works Department is working on some projects in collaboration with the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand, regarding which he will meet the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on August 7 and will discuss these projects. Especially some projects in Sirmaur and Chaupal will be discussed with the CM of Uttarakhand.
