The Israeli military said on Tuesday that Iran had fired missiles at Israel and all civilians in the country were in bomb shelters. The attack comes days after Israel launched a ground offensive to target Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israeli strikes in Beirut killed the terror group’s commander Hassan Nasrallah and a top officer of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry also cited the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and said at 10.08 am IST that the missiles were fired “a short while ago”. The launch was confirmed by Iran’s official IRNA news agency, which said the country had carried out a “missile attack on Tel Aviv”. News agency Reuters quoted Israeli media as saying that more than 100 missiles were launched.

Videos showed debris from missiles intercepted by Israel’s famous Iron Dome and Arrow defence systems raining down on Tel Aviv. The Israel Defence Forces also confirmed that explosions were heard in “Jerusalem and elsewhere”. There have been no reports of casualties yet.

“Iran’s attack continues. You are requested to stay in a safe place until further notice. The explosions you are hearing are from barriers or fallen projectiles,” the army said in a statement to Israelis, reports news agency AFP.

“A short time ago, missiles were fired from Iran towards the State of Israel. Israelis have been instructed to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of the Home Front Command exactly,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry handle said in a post on X.

“In the past few minutes, the Home Front Command has distributed life-saving instructions in various areas across the country.

The IDF is doing and will do everything possible to protect the citizens of the State of Israel.” News of the missiles being fired came shortly after reports of suspected “terrorist” shooting in Israel’s commercial capital Tel Aviv. Police in the city said at least four people were killed.
