India registered a dominating win in the first test, beating Australia by innings and 132 runs. Indian Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front as he scored his 9th century in his test career. However, the rest of the top order and Middle order of the Indian team failed to score big runs for their team.  In the lower middle order, left-handed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel stood up scoring 70 and 84 runs respectively. They both got a fantastic partnership of 88 runs for the 8th wicket.

After returning from injury for 5 months, Ravindra Jadeja led the bowling as he picked up his 11th five-wicket haul in test cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin had his spell in the Aussies in the 2nd innings, picking up his 31st 5 fify and restricting the kangaroos below the 100 run mark. Jadeja and Ashwin combined took 15 wickets out of 20 Australian wickets for their team.

Australian batsmen had a really hard time in the Nagpur test tracking the Indian spinners in their home conditions. While openers David Warner (1) and Usman Khawaja (1) were dismissed by Mohammed Siraj respectively, the spinners took care of the rest of the batting attack. Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer from the Australian team with 49 runs while Steve smith scored 37 runs, Peter Handscomb scored 31 runs and Alex Carey (36) was the only batter to reach the double-digit mark. The Australian team was all out for 91/10 in the first session in the 2nd innings.

In bowling, Todd Murphy had a fantastic debut as the youngster grabbed 7 wickets in the first innings in his debut match. Australian Captain Pat Cummins took two wickets while Nathan Lyon managed one wicket for their team, but the batting display by the Australian team made sure they didn’t get to bowl again in the second innings.
