Shimla, July 09: The apple season has started in Himachal Pradesh. The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to implement universal cartons this year, which the Horticulture department is now going to strictly implement. Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that there will be a complete ban on the use of telescopic cartons for apples in Himachal Pradesh.

Jagat Singh Negi said that universal cartons will have to be used for apples in Himachal Pradesh or outside the state. He said that if needed, SDM level officers will also be given the power to issue challans for using telescopic cartons. However, the orchardist is free to do so for packing less than 20 kg.

Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to implement the Universal Carton in Himachal Pradesh after a lot of deliberation. He said that the Himachal Pradesh government did not take this decision in a hurry. A long round of meetings were held with the gardeners and all the stakeholders related to horticulture in Himachal Pradesh. After this, the Universal Carton was implemented in Himachal Pradesh. Jagat Singh Negi said that there are some people who do not want to use the Universal Carton. They are now trying to confuse people.

Jagat Singh Negi said that the use of telescopic cartons cannot be allowed in Himachal Pradesh. If this continues, it will be difficult to implement universal cartons. He said that apples going to Himachal Pradesh and outside Himachal Pradesh will now have to be sold in universal cartons only. There will be a complete ban on the use of telescopic cartons.

He said that if needed, SDM level officers will also be given the power to issue challans, however, he said that gardeners will also have to be aware to properly implement the use of universal cartons.

On the issue of defaulting commission agents, Jagat Singh Negi said that the Horticulture Department has given more power to APMC in this regard and has asked to file a case at the local level.

He said that most of the defaulting commission agents are local people, hence the gardeners also need to be more vigilant. In such a situation, the gardeners should take legal help as soon as possible.

Jagat Negi said that Congress will win all the three by-elections. Congress has also performed well in the 6 by-elections. Congress will win these elections.
