New Delhi, August 10:Â Former Union minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur has criticized the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, calling the current administration’s impact on the state “unfortunate and unfair”. Thakur accused the Congress of increasing the suffering of people through its policies, which he argues have led to increased expenditure and stalling of important public welfare initiatives.
In a statement, Thakur expressed disappointment over the Congress government’s decision to discontinue several key welfare schemes launched by the previous BJP government. He cited the discontinuation of free water supply in rural areas as a prime example of the Congress’ disregard for public welfare. “The Congress government in Himachal is steeped in arrogance. Their actions of discontinuing the public welfare schemes of the BJP government one by one reflect their arrogance and ill-will towards the people of Himachal,” Thakur said.
Thakur also condemned the Congress’ decision to scrap the Himcare scheme, which provided cashless treatment to people not covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Terming the closure of the scheme as “tyrannical”, he said it had earlier allowed many people to seek treatment at private hospitals when government facilities were inadequate. “The Congress government has taken a tyrannical decision to shut down the Himcare scheme, which had become a solace for the people of Himachal Pradesh. This move takes away crucial aid from those who need it the most,” Thakur said.
Criticizing the Congress government, Thakur pointed to the state’s rising debt and the closure of several institutions. He claimed that the Congress government had borrowed Rs 25,000 crore in just 1.5 years, taking the state’s debt burden to Rs 95,000 crore. Thakur also accused the government of failing to fulfil its promises such as providing 300 units of free electricity and closing down 1,500 institutions, including health and education centres.
Thakur said, “The Congress came to power and immediately started dismantling the beneficial schemes of the BJP. They not only failed to fulfil their promises but also put additional burden on the public.” He also expressed concern over the Congress’ plan to abolish bus fare concessions for women, calling it another example of the administration’s failure to prioritize public welfare.
