Shimla, July 29: Himachal Pradesh Police Department has announced a major recruitment drive for 1,226 constable posts, incorporating new physical standards and eligibility criteria. For the first time, additional marks will be given based on the height of the candidates, which is a significant change in the recruitment process.
Under the revised rules, male candidates will get marks for their height as follows: no marks for height less than 5 feet 7 inches; 1 mark for height between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches; 2 marks for height between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches; 3 marks for height between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches; 4 marks for height between 5 feet 10 inches and 5 feet 11 inches; 5 marks for height between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet; and 6 marks for height above 6 feet. Female candidates will get 1 mark for height between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 4 inches; 2 marks for height between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 5 inches; 3 marks for height between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 6 inches; 4 points for height between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 7 inches; 5 points for height between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches; and 6 points for height above 5 feet 8 inches.
The recruitment process also includes rigorous physical tests. Male candidates will have to complete a 1,500-metre race in 5 minutes 30 seconds, while female candidates will have to complete an 800-metre race in 3 minutes 45 seconds. No separate opportunity will be given for these races. Additionally, male candidates will have to complete a 1.35-metre high jump, while female candidates will have to complete a 1.10-metre high jump, with three attempts allowed. For a 100-metre race, male candidates will have to complete the race within 14 seconds and female candidates within 17 seconds. For long jump, male candidates will have to cover a distance of 4 metres and female candidates 3 metres, with three attempts allowed.
Age eligibility criteria have also been set for police recruitment. General candidates should be between 18 and 26 years of age, while SC-ST, OBC, Gorkha and eminent sportspersons should be between 18 and 28 years of age. Home guards should be between 20 and 29 years of age. The age of the candidates will be calculated as per January 1, 2024.
Additionally, first-time recruits will have to undergo a commando course after their initial training. This enhancement in training is aimed at improving the operational capabilities and readiness of the recruits.
The Himachal Pradesh Police Headquarters has finalised and implemented these new recruitment conditions, which mark a significant change in the recruitment process aimed at ensuring a more efficient and competent police force. The recruitment process is expected to begin soon.
