Due to the heavy rains in the state last week, many drinking water schemes of Jal Shakti Department under Dharamshala circle were damaged. Deepak Garg, superintendent engineer of Jal Shakti Department Dharamshala circle, said that due to the rains, the department has suffered a loss of about eighty-eight crore rupees. .
He said that 50 drinking water schemes were affected due to the rains, out of which twelve are still lying closed. He said that the drinking water schemes are being restored by the department on priority basis. There have also been damages which are being repaired.
He said – If I talk about Dharamshala circle in district Kangra, then there are about 450 water play schemes under me, 155 irrigation schemes and 7 sewage schemes. There was damage during the last week. So I am also happy to inform and I want to share that out of one hundred and fifty eight we have distributed one hundred and fifty eight schemes.
And I have suffered a loss of about 88 crores, eighty-eight crores in this week. Similarly, about fifty of our schemes for irrigation were also closed. Out of that twelve schemes are lying vacant. But irrigation is not our priority this year. Earlier, all our staff, officers and employees were engaged in installing the scheme on it.
So, in total, we have estimated the loss of eighty-eight crores so far, but we have run the drinking water scheme smoothly. Deepak Garg said that there is a possibility of water borne diseases during the rainy season. First super chlorination of all water tanks is done by the department.
