‘Himachal govt takes loans and gives it to Sonia Gandhi’: Kangana Ranaut hits out at CM Sukhu amid financial crisis
Speaking at a BJP membership drive, Ranaut said corruption has run rampant, especially in Congress-led state governments, and accused the current government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of taking loans for Sonia Gandhi.
“Disasters and the Congress government have pushed the state back decades,” she claimed, and called on people to oust the current government. Alleging mismanagement of the disaster fund, she said, “If we give disaster fund, it should go to the CM Relief Fund, but everyone knows that it goes to the Sonia Relief Fund.”
Ranaut also hit out at Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh and said people are “tired of potholes on roads” but he has done nothing to resolve the issue. She vowed to improve her constituency and urged people to join the BJP in large numbers.
The BJP MP also pointed to the state’s financial struggles, including delays in salaries and pensions and loss of free electricity and water benefits, as evidence of Congress’ mismanagement. She also claimed that sports facilities in primary schools were being cut, which she termed as a “conspiracy” against the future of Himachal children and promised to develop a sports complex in Mandi.
Himachal is currently going through a crisis due to rising revenue expenditure. The BJP has blamed Chief Minister Sukhu for the current crisis. Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jai Ram Thakur recently said the situation is so grave that only 28 per cent of the budget is available for development as against 39.56 per cent in 2017-18. He said 40 per cent of the budget is being spent on salaries and pensions, while it was only 27 per cent in 2017-18.
The former chief minister said when the BJP came to power in 2017, the debt burden was Rs 48,000 crore and during five years it borrowed Rs 19,600 crore. He said a debt limit of Rs 6000 crore was left but the present government was “going to create a record by crossing the debt figure of Rs one lakh crore.”
