Shimla, September 06: Sukhu government of Himachal Pradesh will not mortgage gold and silver of any temple of the state. The government does not have any such proposal. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said this in the monsoon session of the Assembly. In this regard, he accused the Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur of deliberately spreading sensation and said that he wants to destabilize Himachal.

He asked the Leader of Opposition that which temple’s gold and silver has been mortgaged and which temple’s proposal came to you. He was answering the original questions of MLA Malender Rajan and supplementary questions of MLA Sudhir Sharma and Jairam Thakur during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Thursday. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the matter of mortgaging the gold and silver of temples is the thinking of the Leader of Opposition and there is nothing like that. He said that the Leader of Opposition is saying this only to create sensation. He said that the Leader of Opposition should speak responsibly. The government is not going to mortgage the gold and silver of any temple.

Earlier, while answering the original question, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the approval of Rs 9 crore for the renovation of the premises of Ram Gopal temple in Damtal is being stopped for the time being. He said that a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Department of Language, Art and Culture and the complete account of this temple will be collected. He said that a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the SDM and the renovation of the temple will be started, but this work will be done only when the report of the committee comes.

Agnihotri said that Ram Gopal temple of Damtal has a total of 17418 kanals of land. Out of this, 16 thousand kanals are in Damtal, 145 kanals of land is in Shahpur, 548 kanals of land is in Pathankot. The temple has an FDR of Rs 15 crore. He said that five hotels, 12 crushers, two petrol pumps and some other commercial complexes are running on the land of the temple. He said that the temple has a lot of property, but the income of the temple is less. The annual income of the temple is two crore rupees. He said that the details of the expenses incurred in the temple have been sought. He refused to investigate the work done in the temple.

Earlier, MLA Sudhir Sharma said that according to the law, deities are considered minors and no commercial activity can be done on the property of a minor. Will the government take action against those who do this. On this, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the temple has a lot of land and all the information about the things that the members are bringing to the attention is being collected and then further action will be taken.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur raised the question that if there is devotion towards the temple, then the work should be allowed to be done according to the draft of Rs 9 crore made for building the temple. He said that is the government going to collect the gold and silver in the temples and sell or mortgage it, because there is such a discussion. Does the government have any idea on that.
