Shimla, 08 September: The Himachal Pradesh government has issued new instructions for schools to improve the quality of education in the state. Under the new guidelines, school principals and headmasters will now have to teach at least one class in addition to their administrative duties. Similarly, Kendra Pramukh Teachers and Head Teachers of primary schools will also handle teaching responsibilities equivalent to Junior Basic Teacher (JBT).
The teaching performance of principals, headmasters, Kendra Pramukh Teachers and Head Teachers will be evaluated and recorded in their Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) and Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs). These measures have been initiated to raise the standard of education across the state and help restructure schools with low student enrollment. The education department has directed all districts to implement these changes.
Apart from teaching compulsories, the government has also made physical exercise a mandatory part of the daily routine in all schools. During the morning prayer assembly, a 15-minute physical exercise session will now be mandatory, which will be supervised by the physical education teacher. In cases where no physical education teacher is available, another teacher will be appointed to lead the exercise.
The new guidelines emphasize the importance of promoting harmony among students, with the national anthem being sung daily during the morning prayer. Other prayers will also be included to promote unity among students of different religions.
To ensure a balanced approach to education, every school will also be required to hold a sports period daily. Physical education teachers will organize sports activities for all classes, not only in individual schools but also in all schools included in their school cluster. The aim is to encourage regular physical activity among students, thereby contributing to their overall development.
