Himachal Pradesh’s well-known horticulture scientist and former Vice Chancellor of Nauni and Agriculture University Palampur Dr. Jagmohan Singh Chauhan passed away on Sunday morning in Solan after a prolonged illness.

Solan, August 25: Himachal Pradesh’s well-known horticulture scientist and former Vice Chancellor of Nauni and Agriculture University Palampur Dr. Jagmohan Singh Chauhan passed away on Sunday morning in Solan after a prolonged illness. 79-year-old Dr. Jagmohan Singh has left behind his wife and two sons.

Dr. Jagmohan Singh was born on November 11, 1945 in village Bhuira of Rajgarh subdivision of Sirmaur. Dr. Jagmohan Singh did his high school education from Rajgarh School. He obtained a BSc degree in 1966 from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He did MSc in Horticulture from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1969 and PhD in Horticulture from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1974. Dr. Jagmohan Singh is the only person from Sirmaur who has been the Vice Chancellor of major universities. From 2 July 2004 to 5 April 2005, he was the VC of University of Agriculture Palampur and from 6 April 2005 to 5 April 2008, he was the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University Nauni.

Late Singh joined government service in 1968 as a research associate at Regional Fruit Research Station Mashobra. After this, he worked as Assistant Horticulturist at Fruit Research Station Kandaghat. He joined Nauni University in 1976. He became a professor in 1984 and was HOD of Fruit Science Department in 1995. From 1998-2001, he worked as State Director of Horticulture on deputation in Himachal Pradesh Government.

Apart from this, he was also Dean College of Horticulture, Director of Extension Education in Nauni University.

On the other hand, Sirmaur Kalyan Manch Solan expressed grief over the death of the senior member. In a statement issued, the Forum’s head Pradeep Mamgain, senior vice president Dr. SS Parmar, advocate Gagan Chauhan, general secretary Yashpal Kapoor and senior member Mian Prem Singh said that the state has lost a great horticulture scientist, whose loss cannot be compensated.
